P1 2025-2026

Term 1 in Primary 1

Literacy

This term we will continue to learn sounds through the Read, Write, Inc programme and start to learn special friends – sh, ch, th, qu, ng and nk. We will continue using Fred Talk and pinching the sounds to help us blend and spell words. In taught writing on Wednesdays we will be focussing on imaginative (creating fairytale characters), instructional and functional writing (invites) linking with our IDL contexts ‘Myths and Legends’ and ‘Performers and Performances’.

Numeracy

This term we are learning to add 2 numbers together to find a new total. We will be doing this through concrete, pictorial and abstract approaches. We will also explore taking numbers away to find a new total. We are looking forward to being introduced to Annie Add, Eddie Equals and Tommy Takeaway to help us understand these concepts. We will also cover symmetry with Mrs Bincowicz.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our first IDL context for the term is ‘Myths and Legends’ where we are focusing on Fairytales. We are excited to explore stories such as The Gingerbread Man, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk through a range of art, literacy, drama and talking and listening activities. Our second IDL context for this term is ‘Performers and Performances’. During this topic we will be learning songs and actions for our Nativity show, planning for our Christmas Fayre and class Christmas parties.

Health and Wellbeing

We will continue with our PE coach sessions with Greg on a Monday and PE sessions with Miss Watson on a Wednesday. Mrs O’Sullivan will deliver our Health and Wellbeing lessons in class with a focus on nurture this term.

Other News

Mr Horton will deliver music lessons with us on Fridays and Mrs Jadid will be doing Science with us every Thursday.

We are looking forward a busy term ahead and can’t wait to perform our Nativity show in December!
