P3 2025-2026

Term 1 & 2

We have settled in well to our primary 3 class with our new teacher and have got into our new routines well. We have had a busy term 1 & 2 filled with lots of fun and learning. We performed our Nativity performance, which was amazing – all our hard work paid off.

Literacy

We learned how to create a set of instructions for a new pupil that would be starting in our class and informing them of our morning routine within the classroom. We completed some personal writing on our summer holidays and September weekend holidays. We also learned how to write a persuasive letter to a local MP which was linked to our IDL topic of “our democratic world”.

In term 2 we linked our writing to our IDL contexts of myths and legends and our Nativity performance. We learned about various Aesop’s fables and created new characters and new endings of the fables we learned. We have created information leaflets, invitations and newspaper reports based on our Nativity performance. We wrote a persuasive letter to Santa explaining why we should be on the nice list this year.

Next term we will be linking our writing to our IDL contexts of our global and our spiritual world.

Numeracy

In term 1, we learned about whole number and number processes in which learned about place value and ordering numbers within 100 and 1000. We learned about symmetry as our stand-alone numeracy topic. We also learned addition and subtraction and the different methods we can use to add and subtract numbers within 100 and 1000.

In term 2, we have been learning about time and shape, in which we have been focussing on half past, o’clock, quarter to and quarter past. We have learned how to convert time between digital and analogue clocks and have learned about 3D shapes and their properties.

Next term we will be learning about division and multiplication and division as our main numeracy topic and will be learning about angles and data handling as our stand-alone numeracy topics.

IDL

We have learned about needs and wants within our context for learning of “our democratic world” and held our own class debate / voting for our pupil and learning council representatives within the class.

In term 2, we have learned about myths and legends and have created our own myth / legend, been able to focus on describing our character and the story and background related to it. We focussed on Aesop’s Fables in which we learned a variety of fables. We also moved onto our topic of performances and performers which was based around our Christmas Nativity performance.

HWB & PE

We have learned about the topics of “safe & healthy” within our HWB in term 1 and have been able to identify different types of people that can keep us safe within our community and explain how. We have learned about the Eatwell guide and the importance of having a healthy diet and being healthy.

In term 2, we focussed on “nurtured & achieving” in which we learned about the different ways we can be nurtured whilst also looking at celebrating our achievements.

We have developed our locomotor skills and ball control in term 1 within PE by having different races incorporating a variety of different movements and focussing on tennis and football to improve our ball control.  We learned about ball skills through basketball in which we have been able to learn how to dribble and complete a variety of passes in basketball whilst moving into space.

In term 3, we will be focussing on our Scottish dance and gymnastics as well as net games, focussing on tennis.
