P1/2 2025-2026

Term 3

We hope you had a lovely Christmas holiday and wish you all the best in this new year and new term. Here is an update about the learning that will be taking place this term in P1/2.

Literacy

We will be continuing to follow the Read Write Inc. Phonics Scheme to teach phonics. Your child may begin to bring home Book Bags/Ditty sheets. To support their progression in reading, it is important these materials are engaged with and well looked after. Supporting your child to use letter sounds, rather than names continues to be useful at this stage. P1/2 will have taught writing with Mrs Binkowicz on Wednesdays, where they will focus on a variety of genres, such as functional and imaginative. Miss Lilly will support writing across other areas of the curriculum such as IDL and R.E.

Numeracy

This term, we will be focusing on Money and Measurement. Mrs Binkowicz will be continuing with data handling as a stand alone topic before moving on to position and movement. During our topic of Money, we will be working on recognising British coins/notes, ordering by value, making amounts in different ways and giving change. Depending on number awareness, pupils will be doing this to amounts of 10p, 20p and 50p-£1. Some will be extended further to look at £2 and notes.

During our Measurement block, we will be covering height, length, weight, and volume. We will use non-standard measurement while some learners will be extended to use standard measurements, such as cm, ml, g. Pupils will have the chance to use a range of tools and engage with measurement in real-life contexts.

We will also have problem-solving opportunities to allow learners to apply their knowledge in a range of ways.

Mrs O’Sullivan will cover Health and Wellbeing on Tuesday afternoons. This term the SHANARRI Indicators that will be focused on are; included, respected and responsible.
