Term 4 in Primary 1
We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Easter break. We are very excited for our final term of Primary 1! Here is what we will be learning this term.
Numeracy
For the first 6 weeks we will be starting a new topic of ‘Time’. We will learn to talk about our daily routines and understand times of the day (morning, afternoon and night). We will look at the different months and seasons and be able to identify celebrations and activities that take place during each season. We will also explore o’clock and half past on analogue and digital clocks. For the second half of the term, we will be exploring estimating and rounding and recapping our learning of number with a focus on doubles, halves and quarters.
Literacy
We will continue our Read, Write, Inc. sessions four times a week with a focus on blending and using our knowledge of sounds to help us spell. We will also explore expression to make stories sounds more exciting!
In taught writing, our learning will be linked to our contexts for learning. Our first context is ‘A Trip in a Time Machine’ where we will explore imaginative writing by continuing a story using our own ideas and thoughts. We will then explore functional writing through making invites for our Class Assembly, our School Show and class picnics for our ‘Great Adventure’ context. Our final taught writing focus will be personal writing where we will be reflecting on our time in Primary 1 and writing letters to our Primary 2 teacher.
Contexts for learning
Our first context for learning will focus on Transport through the Ages in our ‘Trip in a Time Machine’ context. We will explore old and new forms of transport and how they have changed. We will also be collaborating in teams to build our own time machines. We are looking forward to visiting the Transport Museum soon! Our final context for learning is ‘A Great Adventure’ where we are excited to take part in our first Sports Day, hold class picnics and take part in Mini Mudder.
Other
We are looking forward to having Mr Horton for music every Friday and taking part in Sports Coaching sessions every Monday.
We are looking forward to a final busy term and will update you all very soon.
