Term 4 in P4/5

This term we will work on two different IDLs. The first one is ‘A Trip in a Time Machine’.

During this IDL we will:

  • research facts about Mary Queen of Scots
  • create classroom displays about mare
  • create a timeline of her life
  • look at castles in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire linked to Mary
  • create a class museum
  • make a door display and build a time machine
  • write diaries and newspaper articles about Mary Queen of Scots and the events from her life

Our Second IDL ‘A Great Adventure’ will start in June and continue till the end of term.

During this IDL we will:

  • create our profiles for the next teacher
  • take part in school’s sports day
  • take part in transition events and meet our new class teacher
  • create a scpbook with pictures of our work and learning in P4/5
  • plan a great adventure event and take part in a class picnic with our families

Literacy

During literacy lessons we will continue working on developing our reading skills which help us read with greater understanding of texts. We will also continue working on developing our skills of writing different genres of texts like diaries, newspaper articles and instructions.

Numeracy

During numeracy lessons we will work on measuring length, capacity and weight. We will do practical activities when measuring, and we will also practise converting units of length, weight and capacity. Afterwards we will move to shape, position and movement, where will look at giving directions, reading coordinates and describing different 2D and 3D shapes.

RE

During RE lessons, we will read and recall the events of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus in the account from Mark’s Gospel. We will also talk about Mary during the month of May. Some of the learners in our class will continue their First Communion preparations and then First Communion celebrations in May.

PE

This term we will have our PE lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During PE lessons we will focus on athletics. We will practise running long and short distance, relay races, long jump and triple jump.

Homework

Our homework will include numeracy tasks, reading books and spelling words. Numeracy homework will be posted every Monday as a set of online activities and should be finished by Friday. Our reading books will be shared on Boost learning.
