P1/2 2026-2027

Term 1 – P1/2

Welcome to P1/2! We have spent the first 2 weeks of term getting to know our new classmates, exploring our environment, the resources in it and for the P1’s – their new classroom. The P2s have been excellent helpers, supporting the P1s so kindly with their new transitions and learning.

Literacy

In Literacy this term, we will be using Read Write Inc scheme to support our developing phonics knowledge. P1s will be learning initial letter sounds and focusing on blending these into words. P2s will continue with learning Set 2 sounds and using their Fred fingers to spell words.Taught Writing lessons will be done with Miss Macdonald. Wider literacy will also be taught through reading activities, listening and talking and IDL lessons.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we will be developing our number sense, beginning to count, recognise, write and order numbers to 10/20. We will be extending our learning in P2 by using a range of materials to demonstrate our understanding of place value to 50 and beyond, using dienes, numicon and tens frames. Miss Macdonald will be teaching shape as a stand alone topic.

During ‘Inventors and Inventions’ we will learn about famous Scottish inventors and get the opportunity to design and build our own inventions!
