P1 2026-2027

Welcome to Primary 1!

Primary 1 have had a super first week of school and have settled in brilliantly! We have been busy learning new routines, exploring our classroom, making new friends and meeting our wonderful Primary 7 buddies.

Here is a little look at what we will be learning this term!

Literacy

This term, we will begin learning sounds using the Read Write Inc. programme and practise forming our letters correctly. We will also start blending sounds and writing CVC words. Our taught writing will take place once a week, with opportunities for both personal and imaginative writing. We will also enjoy engaging with stories and sharing our thoughts and ideas.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we will be learning to read, write and recognise numbers. We will explore numbers before and after, more and less, missing numbers, odd and even numbers, ordering and counting forwards and backwards. We will also be investigating 2D shapes, learning to name and recognise them and identify their corners and edges.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our first IDL topic is ‘We Belong’. We will explore what it means to belong and the people and places that help us feel connected at home, in school and in our local community. We will also explore our families and celebrate what makes each of us unique and special.

Through this topic, we have already created our Class Charter and begun exploring our rights as children.

Later this term, we are looking forward to exploring our second topic, ‘Inventors and Inventions’, where we will discover different inventions and use our imaginations to design some of our own!

Health and Wellbeing

We will be keeping active through our PE coaching sessions every Monday and PE with Mr Dougan every Tuesday. We are also looking forward to taking part in Active Adventure Days!

Our Health and Wellbeing focus this term is Safe and Healthy, linking closely with our ‘We Belong’ topic.

Other News

We loved our first singing session with Miss Hamilton and are looking forward to having her with us every Wednesday morning this term.

We can’t wait to share photos and updates from our learning with you very soon!
