Term 1 in Primary 5/6

Welcome back after the summer!

In term 1 we are going to learn:

Numeracy– Data Handling with Mrs Binkowicz. 

We will be learning to interpret a variety of graphs/ tables and charts. We will also learn how to create a bar graph, line graph, pie chart etc.

With Miss MacDonald the children are going to be focusing on estimating, rounding (including using rounding to work out calculations), and place value.

Literacy– we will use CYPIC (CHildren Young People Improvement Collaborative) methodology  to work  towards our own targets within punctuation, vocabulary, spelling  with a continued focus on creative writing.

In reading we will be continuing to use reflective reading strategies with our reading groups and in whole class lessons. 

Science– Biodiversity 

 We will Classify  living things into plants (flowering and non-flowering), animals (vertebrates and invertebrates) and other groups through knowledge  of their characteristics.  

 We will describe how energy flows between plants and animals in more  complex food chains and webs and ecosystems, using vocabulary  such as ‘producers’, ‘consumers’ and ‘herbivore’.

French- We will revise our knowledge of the months of the year, numbers and days of the week.

RE-  we will be revising the prayers. We will also be learning to reflect on our god-given talents and  will decide how we can use them to help others.

Our IDL topic is “We belong in St Peter’s” we will be learning about the make-up of our class and how, as unique individuals, we all bring our skills and talents to make one St Peter’s school. We will be holding class elections for the pupil council rep.

Miss MacDonald- Monday, Thursday, Friday

Mrs Binkowicz- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 

On Monday we have NLF, children wear school uniform. If children have a yellow St Peter’s P.E. t-shirt, they can wear that.
On Friday we have P.E where children can wear P.E. kit to school. 

Can all children please have indoor shoes for P.E lessons please. Please support your child to learn to tie their laces if they have trainers with laces.
