Welcome to P7!

Hello everyone, welcome to P7’s first post. This term we are working on two IDLs. Our first IDL -“We Belong at St Peter’s School”, will link to rights and responsibilities. Our second IDL “Inventors and Inventions”, will focus on technology and the development of communication and phones over the years.

IDL-“We Belong at St Peter’s School”

We will:

  • write applications for different positions such as house captains, sports leaders and JRSos
  • discuss the rights of a child and work with UNCRC document
  • talk about children’s rights as specified in UNCRC
  • we will take part in election to the Pupil Councilband create slides specifying qualities required for this position
  • all pupils will have a chance to join pupil voice groups and plan their work for the whole year in order to make an impact and a difference in our school community
  • talk about democracy and democratic voting
  • we will work on our class charter and create a display in class

IDL- “Inventors and Inventions”

We will:

  • discuss the history on phones
  • make a link with a Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell, who is credited with patenting the first practical telephone
  • take part in class discussions concerning people’s dependence on phones and other communication devices nowadays
  • take different roles while designing futuristic communication devices
  • participate in Maths Week and comple different numeracy challenges

Literacy

In our writing we will focus on writing creatively and link our writing to our topics. We will work on developing our skills and knowledge of different genres such as speeches, diaries, applications, instructions and many more. In reading we will talk about different skills that help us read and use those skills to understand texts better.

Numeracy

During numeracy lessons we will focus on place value and different operations such as addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. We will work on explaining the link between a digit, its place and its value for numbers to 3 decimal places, we will also practise multiplying and dividing whole numbers  using a range of strategies.

RE

During Re lessons we will work with the Bible and we will practise finding passages in it. We will also talk about respectfully participating in prayers and mass. As a class we will discuss the lives of different saints and qualities of a saint. We will also work on Pope Francis Faith Award and analyse the gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit.

PE

This term we will have couching sessions on Mondays and PE lessons on Fridays. During PE lessons we will start work on developing tennis skills. The second sport that we will practise will be hockey. We will work on skills required to participate in different sports, such as concentration, pair and teamwork, stamina, coordination and fairness.

Homework

Our homework will include numeracy tasks and reading books . Numeracy homework will be posted every Monday as a set of online activities and should be finished by Friday. Our reading books will be shared on Boost learning.
