Term 1 In Primary 6
We are already at the end of Term 1 and P6 have settled into their new classroom and routines well. We have enjoyed learning from all areas of the curriculum and have been so lucky to have an author visit us, watch a Maths Magic Show during Maths Week and we got to visit Tillydrone Library!

Details Of Our Learning in Term 1
Literacy
We enjoy reading and selecting our own Accelerated Reader books to read daily for enjoyment and challenge. We are also reading our class novel ‘The Creakers’ by Tom Fletcher. Reading groups have been established along with regular Reflective Reading lessons. We follow the Cypic writing programme and often write in a variety of genres, normally linked to our class topics. We have also enjoyed listening and talking opportunities.
Numeracy
In numeracy, we have focused on: place value; addition and subtraction and multiplication and division. We have been learning new strategies to multiply and divide whole numbers and decimal fractions by 10, 100 and 1,000. We enjoyed Maths Week and enjoyed working in groups to budget and plan a party!

Health and wellbeing
We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Next Level Foundation on a weekly basis. These sessions are linked with the skills we will be developing during our PE slots.
During our gym lessons this term, we have learned more about fitness and also focused on improving our hockey and tennis skills.
Our health and wellbeing lessons this term were based on the indicators Safe and Healthy, from the SHANARRI wheel.
We took some time to remind ourselves about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We worked together to identify some articles which we consider important to us and to children around the world. We have included these articles in our Class Charter.

Roots Of Empathy:
Our Roots of Empathy programme is underway and we are delighted to have this year’s Tiny Teacher, Baby Orla, and her mum and dad visit us. Through the development of our baby, we are learning about empathy, neuroscience, temperament and the power of love!

Contexts For Learning:
For the first 4 weeks of the new term, our context for learning was looking at ‘We Belong.’ We learned that being different is something to celebrate. Every one of us is unique and special, but we all belong together as part of our school family. When we include others, show kindness and respect our differences, everyone feels welcome and valued
‘Inventors and Inventions’’ is our second focus where P6 will be learning about Artificial Intelligence. We are learning about AI, and how it is used in our daily lives. We found examples of AI at home, at school and in the world around us. We will be exploring how AI can help people learn, solve problems and save time. We will also be looking at the negative side of AI. By looking at both the advantages and disadvantages, we will be able to understand how to use AI safely, responsibly and wisely.
Things to Remember:
Tuesday – Sports Coach session
Wednesday – PE please wear comfortable clothes / sports clothes.
Mobile phones must be handed into the office every morning before school starts.
Water bottles and a healthy snack should be brought from home every day.
