End of Term 1 in P3

This term we have enjoyed two active adventure days, a trip to Tillydrone library, a Macmillan coffee morning as well as special visits from Maths Magic, NHS sleep workshop and City Moves dance. It has been a busy term of establishing routines, getting to know eachother and learning.
We enjoyed a parade at the end of our “We belong” focus (Our Class Family) and celebrated our diversity. At the end of this term we have started our “Inventors and Inventions” focus which is “our world of inventions”. We have enjoyed learning about different inventors so far before we go on to design and create out inventions ready to showcase after the October break.
In maths and numeracy we have been exploring number using concrete and pictorial materials to understand place value. We have used these skills to compare numbers using the symbols <, > and =. We are then moving on to applying this knowledge to add and subtract numbers, looking at fact families. We have also been exploring position and movement to follow a set of intructions such as positional vocbulary, clockwise, anti-clockwise, full turn, half turn and quarter turn.
In taught writing we took opportunities to write about ourselves and our talents. Some of us took this opportunity to campaign for Pupil Council votes. We have also been writing creatively about inventors.
In P.E we practised throwing and catching to develop our hand-eye coordination. We then progressed onto football skills and controlling the balls movement with our feet. This also took focus and concentration. We are getting better at discussing our skill development. We are working on giving effective peer feedback.
In wider literacy we have been building our memory and expression in preparation for the Nativity next term. Some of us will be taking on lines and acting roles and so these are important skills to be building in preparation for this. We practise expression during reading lessons too when we do “voice choice”. In R.E and HWB we have taken on opportunities for acting such as when we acted out scenes from the story “our class family”. We continue to practise using our body language to tell a story.
To support us with developing new friendships, we read and watched the story “have you filled a bucket today?” This linked nicely to our learning in R.E about Jesus’ 2 greatest commandment and the story of the Good Samaritan. We have started to learn some new traditional prayers as part of our P3 learning including the Guardian angel prayer and veritas act of sorrow. We continue to learn Mass parts (confiteor, Gloria . Thank you for your support with this.

Have a lovely break and stay safe,
Miss Bennett
