Primary 1 Blue’s news for March.
Primary one blue are continuing to work hard and learn lots!
In Phonics this week the children will be learning the sound ng as in sing, strong and rang. The following three weeks will be consolidation weeks where the children will be revising the sounds sh, th, ch and ng along with the initial sounds which were introduced before Christmas. There are Education City games for each of these sounds. The children love watching “Geraldine the giraffe” as part of their phonics lessons and the videos for the most recent sounds are below.
The children will be learning the words with, us and so for spelling this week.
They will then have two consolidation weeks where we will be revising the most recently taught words.
Week beginning 30th March, the spelling words will be old, do and going.
In maths, the children have been doing a wonderful job of learning to tell the time to the hour on analogue and digital clocks. They have been very enthusiastic in their learning during this topic. This week we will be consolidating and assessing their knowledge of this topic and learning about the order of the days of the week and the seasons of the year.
Next week the children will be starting a block on numbers to 20. They already know 1 – 10 very well and now the children will be learning to count from 11 to 20. They will learn to recognise and write the numbers. They will sequence numbers to 20 and will begin addition and subtraction within 20.
Our topic continues to be the farm. The children will further their learning about animals on the farm (specifically pigs and sheep). They will also learn about the crops that grow on farms, what they need in order to grow and how the crops are used to feed us. On Thursday 19th March we are going to be making vegetable soup in class. I would appreciate it if you could send your child to school with one vegetable on that day. I will send out a reminder letter closer to the time!
We are looking forward to our trip to see “Whatever the weather” at the Lemon Tree on Friday.
