P6 News – Oct and Nov
Wow what a busy couple of months!
At the end of September we celebrated National Poetry Day by looking at the poem “My Shadow” by Robert Louis Stevenson. We then wrote our own poems based on our shadows. They were excellent. We read some out at assembly.
On 29th October, after all their hard work, P6 performed ‘Macbeth’ at the Arts Centre. The show was a huge success and the children were so proud of their efforts! As were their teachers! Well done P6! What a great experience.
We have been continuing to learn German with Mrs Bain and Julia, a student who is visiting from Germany.
We have been learning some Mandarin calligraphy with Mr Zuo. We try to practise the strokes when we have spare time. We have learned the character for ‘I’, ‘like’, ‘love’ and some foods.
In Maths, we have been working on Money and Finance. The children have been enjoying learning about budgeting. We have been using the laptops for online food shopping, looking at Christmas present catalogues and planning a party within a budget.
We have had PGDE student Mr Melville in our class. He finishes his first placement with us on Friday 20th November. He will return for four weeks in January. We have particularly enjoyed his topic and science lessons!
We have been writing a newspaper article. We learned about headlines, eye witness accounts and how to write in a journalistic style. Afterwards we were editors and marked each other’s working giving feedback.
In our last 4 weeks before the Christmas holidays, we are looking forward to continuing to learn about Europe and preparing for the Christmas Fair with our enterprise project.
