P1 Red December News
Hello from P1 Red.
Thanks to everyone who attended the Christmas Fayre on Saturday. At the P1 Red stall we sold Christmas decorations that we made and decorated in class the previous week. We also did a roaring trade on ‘Reindeer Dust’. There were many fun and exciting items and activities for sale at all the stalls. All the children throughout the school demonstrated their creativity and entrepreneurship brilliantly.
We are off to see ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the Arts Centre on Tuesday. It promises to be a brilliant show. Parents who can come to help are asked to contact the school office please – 01224 485611 or stpeters@aberdeencity.gov.uk
Literacy:
We have been continuing to learn our sounds and sight words. We are learning about making words with our magnetic letters and to;
Say the word. Make and break the word into the different letter sounds. Blend the sounds back together. Read the word. Write the word.
We have just received an amazing new set of Big Cat reading books that the children will begin reading this week. These books are extremely well produced and include suggested reading strategies and activities inside the back cover. We hope all the children and their families enjoy this excellent new resource.
Bookbug Trip:
Thanks to those that made the journey to the Beach Ballroom with us for the Scottish Book Awards P1 – P3 event. The event was great fun and the children and teachers learned all about the books that are nominated for the Scottish Children’s Book Award from the authors themselves.
Voting closes for the award in February 2016, giving the children plenty of time to read all three books before they make a decision about who they will vote for.
When we returned to class, we wrote about our trip. We have also used our Bookbug books as the inspiration for some of our writing lessons.
Maths:
In maths we have continued learning our numbers and we have been starting to learn about ‘taking away’ and subtracting. The children have learned about 2D shapes. We have also starting using the Education City website to develop our learning.
Topic:
The children made animal habitats as a homework exercise. Their work was amazingly creative. We really enjoyed discussing all the habitats and using them for role play activities.
Drama:
We have had some brilliant drama lessons with Mr Horabin. We all took part in various activities based upon the ‘Hansel and Gretel’ fairytale. Mr Horabin made the story come alive and the children got to watch one another perform in different roles on the stage.
All the children throughout the school are hard at work practising for the upcoming nativity play. P1 Red will be singing during the performance and we are really looking forward to a wonderful show.
Thank you for all your continued support as we approach the busy festive period here at St. Peter’s!
