During January, we studied several poems by Robert Burns and, in groups, we composed our own poems about a playful haggis. We enjoyed presenting them in assembly.
Mrs Smith helps lots of children in our school to practise understanding, speaking, reading and writing English. She is the English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher and she works in P6 on Thursday afternoons. We interviewed her and enjoyed hearing about her work in different schools in Aberdeen and about her own school days in Nigeria. We learned that she speaks five languages well! We learn English, German and Mandarin in school. Some children learn other languages at home or in classes outside school so they understand Polish, French, Spanish, Latin, Igbo or Yoruba.
