P6 End of February news

Time flies when you’re having fun – especially in the Primary 6 classroom.

Class trip

We are still learning about our Victorian topic. We had a great trip to Haddo House and the Victorian classroom, going back in time to the Victorian era. In Haddo House, we dressed as servants and maids in the hope of being employed by the house, although I do not think it would have been a job any of us would have enjoyed. We learned some fascinating facts about the history of the house and the lives of the people living and working there.

Next, we paid a visit to the Tarves Victorian classroom which was an amazing experience. Mrs Bain and Miss McLoughlin took on the role of Miss Cruickshaw and Miss Fraser, two very strict Victorian teachers. We were forced to sit in rows, with boys and girls segregated. We experienced some Victorian style lessons such as arithmetic, handwriting and a lesson on cleanliness, having our hands and shoes inspected. Some of us even got a chance to wear the dunce’s hat! It was a great experience but I think we all agree that we all prefer the style of learning today.

Maths

The children have been working hard on the topic of information handling. We are revising our knowledge of grouping data and how this information can be presented on various types of graphs and charts. Next we will be moving onto probability.

Language

After our amazing experience of a Victorian classroom, we are now writing diary entries about the day in the life of a Victorian school child. We are still really enjoying our class novel “Holes”, eager to find out what Stanley and the boys are searching for in Camp Green Lake.

Best of luck to our Euroquiz team who will be takingpart in the competition this Friday in Woodside. We are all very proud of your hard work! Fingers crossed!
