Welcome back for our final term!
It has been lovely to have the boys and girls back to school, full of stories from their Easter Holidays!
We are settling well into our final term as primary 2 in St Peter’s.
Notes for this term:
P.E. with Mrs Armstrong – Monday 9am (outside on most occasions – weather permitting).
Please ensure the children have an appropriate gym kit. They will wear their school jumpers in most cases, but if you wish to provide long bottoms to keep them warm, please do so.
Swimming lessons – Aberdeen Sports Village Tuesday 10.45 – 12
Please ensure that the children come to school with a swimming kit and towel so that they can make the best use of this fantastic opportunity.
Parent support welcomed to accompany us.
Upcoming trip to Castle Fraser – Inverurie Wednesday 4th May
Leaving school 9.15 returning before 3pm.
Parent support welcomed to accompany us on our trip.
End of term 3 wrap up:
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Tillydrone library. The children had a fantastic time listening to stories and interacting with them. We even managed the walk all the way to Tillydrone and back on our little legs. Well done! May thanks for the parent support on the day!
We also had a great time celebrating World Book Day, by dressing as our favourite story book characters, and bringing in the story to share with the class.
We enjoyed our Easter egg hunt in the school garden, organised by the primary 7 boys and girls. We also were really happy to go to Seaton Park to roll our Easter eggs down the hill.
We enjoyed learning about the Easter Story, and making meaning of it in many different ways. We shared a small meal together in class and thought about the significance of this.
We also had great fun at the St Machar Football festival, where we used the skills we had learned with Rob all the way back in term 1!
Learning so far:
We have been consolidating what we learned in term 3 about money.
Keeping fit and healthy (even on the wet days) with Go Noodle!
We had great fun predicting what our term 4 topic might be! We had lots of excellent ideas and guessed correctly. We will be learning all about mini beasts / life cycles in term 4. We have decided to call our new topic “Creepy Crawlies”.
Upcoming learning:
Phonics
- a-e – spelling words : take, gave, cold, don’t
- u_e – spelling words : every, find, want, girl
- e-e – spelling words – father, head, mother, jump
- ss – spelling words – four, miss, never, these
- ll – spelling words – well, will, fell, call
Listening and talking
Show and tell will begin again w/b 9/5/16. I will pop a note into the reading records so that you know which day your child will have their show and tell slot on.
Reading
We are using a mixture of the Rigby Star and Big Cat Phonics reading books in class. Your child will receive 1 or 2 books a week (depending on how they are reading the book when I read with them in class). Books will continue to be given out on a Monday and Thursday (if appropriate).
Please support your child’s reading by hearing them reading aloud at home as much as possible.
Independent books will also be given (where appropriate). The children choose these themselves, to read for pleasure.
Maths
Our new topic in maths (starting w/b 2/5/16) is going to be data handling, This will work alongside our new topic. We will be collecting data in various ways and using it for creating graphs, venn diagrams, carol diagrams etc.
We will continue to learn our times tables alongside this. We have moved on to the 3 times table. We will also continue to focus on addition and subtraction in our mental maths.
Topic
The children have decided on the title of “Creepy Crawlies” for our minibeast/ lifecycle topic. We are going to be learning about different creatures that are classed as minibeasts and their habitats. We are also going to be learning about the life cycles of some of these animals too. We will be creating our own fact file for this topic, where the children will be able to record information as they learn about it.
Education City
In the homework section of Education City, I have created files to keep things all in one place. At the moment I have created a Spelling / Phonics file and a Writing / Reading / Comprehension file.
Inside there are activities to support your child with their learning, I will update these regularly so that the children have access to different activities.
I will also be creating files for our different topics in maths this term.
Homework on Education City will still go into the section for that week, with the current phoneme and activities linked to that week’s learning.
Thank you, once again for your continued support.
Miss Blair and primary 2 red!
