Primary 2 Red Welly Walk
On Tuesday 15th November P2 Red went on their first “Welly Walk.” The children put on their wellington boots and walked to Seaton Park. This was linked to their learning in maths and our topic which is based on the book “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark” by Jill Tomlinson.
On our walk we looked at the rows of housing and how the odd and even house numbers were on opposite sides of the street. We tried to guess the next house numbers as we walked.
The children are learning all about time in maths and we found lots of signs with times on. We discussed am and pm and the duration of parking on different streets. We even looked at the times on the post box to see when the latest collections would be.
When we were inside the park, we read Chapter 3 of “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark.” In the book Plop (the baby barn owl) visits some boy scouts and sings by the campfire. We had an imaginary campfire and we sang campfire songs and danced around.
I think it is safe to say that we had a fun time and we learnt a lot along the way!
