P1 Red News

Hello everyone from all of us in P1 red. We have all settled very well back into school in into Primary One Red. It is hard to believe that we are already half way through our second term. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to our parent teacher evenings. It was lovely to meet everyone and to chat about how well all the children are progressing.

Maths:

This term we have been continuing to learn our numbers. We started this term by investigating 2D and 3D shapes.

Now we are beginning to do some basic addition and we will be doing some simple subtraction this term too. When you are out and about, try counting objects that you find or making groups of leaves to add together.

We will also look at some simple symmetry before the end of the term.

Literacy

In phonics we have learned about the sounds for the letters d,e,c,k,ck,g,and l. . We have been learning to form the letters correctly to blend the sounds of the letters together to make 3 letter words.

We will continue our phonics learning throughout the term. We will be looking at the sounds for the letters f, o,  b, u, h and w  over the next few weeks.

Topic:

Our topic is ‘People who help us’. The children have been learning about the people who help us in the school and in the community. . We have had our school’s janitor, administrator and dental nurse come to talk to us and answer our questions.

On Wednesday 22nd November we were visited by a group of Medical Students from the University of Aberdeen. They helped us to find out more about the human body and how doctors help us. The children brought in their teddies to school on Wednesday and they were able to apply bandages to any sore arms, legs and heads. It was a fantastic afternoon!

Thank you for all your support.
