P6/7R News

We’re very busy as usual in P6/7R with lots going on and lots to look forward to.

Scottish Opera

Huge congratulations to our P7 pupils who represented the school with pride alongside Seaton and Woodside schools. They performed as the Africans in the Scottish Opera production ‘Dragons of the Western Sea’. In school they worked hard to learn the lyrics and music with some difficult pronunciations along the way. Thank you to Mr. Dawson for his hard work in helping to prepare the children. With lots going on during this busy term the P7s were a credit to the school and showed that they can put on a show with some style.

Confirmation

On May 12th 2018 some of our P7s came together to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Columba’s church, Bridge of Don. In a beautiful ceremony, our children shared this great occasion with friends and family. Bishop Hugh told them that receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit gave them “7 free downloads” that they now have access to in their daily lives!

Tomintoul

We had a fantastic time at our annual residential trip to Tomintoul with this years P7s. The fantastic weather played a huge part in making the trip as enjoyable as possible. We first arrived at Pluscarden Abbey where we met Fr. Giles and he gave us a tour of the beautiful abbey, answering questions from the children along the way. By the time we arrived at the St. Michael’s Centre on our first night Fr. Colin was setting up for an evening of music and told us all about his trip to Japan. On the second day we had a great time at Landmark with most of the children tiring themselves for the bus journey back to the centre. That evening we were introduced to Fr. Colin’s art studio and, working together, created a P7 story board which is yet to be revealed. On our way back to school on the Friday we made a stop to visit the Greyfriars Sisters of Mercy and had lunch in their amazing garden, even playing football with the Sisters (who were a lot more competitive than the children might have thought!). We spent time getting to know the way they live their lives and how the ended up in Elgin. It was a great way to conclude our trip and get back onto the bus with everyone going home in one piece.

Transition

Our topic for this last term is Choices and Change which is relevant to both P6s and P7s at this moment in time. Our P7 are readying themselves for academy visits and the big step away from primary. Through this we are supporting them along the way and are in contact with different academies to ensure they are aware of their strengths and personality before they start S1. Having recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation and gone through a residential trip to Tomintoul, the children have experienced lots of life skills which will be crucial to them in the future. In a similar way, P6 are preparing for P7 and with that comes much more responsibility and more will be expected of them. Some may be making the decision to apply for the role as House Captain whilst others will be preparing for the different opportunities that will come their way in P7. With this topic the children are learning about how to deal with the different choices and changes at this point in their school career.
