P5 September update
Primary 5 have made a great start to the term! They came back to school eager to learn and have done some great work!
Literacy
Within our spelling lessons, we have been learning new strategies to help us with more difficult spelling words. The children have been taking part in a wide range of literacy activities, improving their spelling and expanding their vocabulary. Also in grammar, we have been revising homophones and the importance of them within our writing.
We are continuing to use reflective reading activities in the classroom and for our homework, allowing the learners to explore their higher order thinking skills through reading.
We have completed some fantastic pieces of writing in term 1 covering a range of genres such as fractured fairy tales, explaining how the water cycle works and a recount of our trip to the Aberdeen Science Centre.
Maths
We have started our topic on “number”. We have covered some new areas including negative numbers, divisibility and multiples. We have also been taking an active approach to our maths, thinking about our learning in real life contexts. Sumdog is now a firm favourite in the Primary 5 classroom, a great way to explore how fun maths can be!
Topic
The entire school are learning about “Our caring world”. Primary 5 have been specifically looking at water:
- how important water is in our daily lives
- the water cycle
- how water is filtered
- how we can use water wisely.
We have been really enjoying this topic. We got the chance to go to the Aberdeen Science Centre which was a great way to explore our topic.
Thank you for your continued support. Please ensure your child is taking responsibility for their own homework and timetable. This includes returning letters on time.
