P1 news
Primary 1 have been very busy over the last few weeks. We had a wonderful time learning with Miss Forsyth and wish her well as she gets her own class after the summer.
Swimming
Next week we start our swimming block at the Sports Village. The children will be going swimming in their Blue and Red classes with Miss MacDonald and Miss Murray. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a swimming costume (one piece for girls) and towel in a separate bag. Goggles and a swimming cap are optional. Please can I ask that girls do not wear tights to school on swimming days.
Maths
We have been learning about fractions. We have been making fractions of shapes and sharing things out equally to split numbers in half.
We will be extending our learning of addition and subtraction over the next few weeks.
Phonics
We have been learning about the sounds wh, ph, ee and oo. We have enjoyed playing lots of games to help us learn the sounds.
Next week we are going to be learning the sound ck. We will spend some time revising and consolidating our learning of the sounds taught recently before moving on to our final three sounds for the year.
We are continuing to develop our writing skills within our learning across the curriculum.
Project
We are learning about farms this term. So far we have been learning about the job of a farmer, the types of animals that you would find on farms and what we get from the animals. We will be going on to learn about the other types of food that grow on farms and what a farmer needs to do to make sure that the crops grow properly. We will be learning about different types of food and how food helps us to grow and be healthy.
Library
We were very excited to choose our first books from our infant library. Thursday will be our library day. On Thursdays the children will be taken in small groups to the library. Please remind them to bring back their library book so that they can exchange it for a new book.
Thank you for meeting with me during Parents’ Night. It was lovely to talk to you all.
