Welcome to P4

Michael McFadden

Welcome back to school to all our P4 children. We have been very busy since we started back. This term we will be working hard on lots of different parts of our learning.

Maths

In maths, we will be focusing on money and working with money in real life contexts. We will learn to calculate change and recognise coins and notes which are used to pay for items. We will continue to take part in daily mental maths work to improve our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills.

Literacy

In spelling we are concentrating on a different phoneme sound each week. This week we are working on the ‘ae’ sound. Reading books have been given out to be read at home. We ask children to try to read some pages and answer questions on what has happened in the pages they have read. This will improve their comprehension skills. During circle time we have the opportunity to develop our talking and listening skills. We know it’s very important to be able to share our opinion and be heard as well as respecting the opinion of others.

Topic

The theme for our topic this term is ‘Our Democratic World’. P4 will be concentrating on Parliament and discovering the very important decisions that are made in Parliament every day which affect our world. We will work on different curricular areas whilst learning through this topic.

Digital Technology

P4 have been set up with code.org logins and have already started to learn how to write lines of code in order to make a command such as an animation work. P4 are able to use programmes such as Education City and Sumdog effectively and they will be learning how to use the Read Write tool to help them with their writing work.

Homework

Homework will go out on Monday and it is due in on Friday. Homework will not always be paper-based and instructions will be sent through Marvellous Me. Please bring your reading book to school each day. Thank you.

P.E

P.E days for P4 are Monday and Wednesday. We also have football skills every Thursday. Please remember to have gym kit available on these days. Thank you.
