Welcome to Primary 6!
Welcome to Primary 6!
Starting off our term in Primary 6, we created our Class Charter. The charter relates to the Rights of Every Child and the children worked together to vote on the ones most relevant for our classroom to be displayed. We also created characters of ourselves to go along with our display to show how we all agree to work towards upholding these Rights as well as the rules of the classroom.
We have also been working every morning on our class motto. The motto serves to warm up our voices and minds for the day as well as reinforce all the values that represent St Peter’s. In fact, our P6 were even asked to perform it at assembly! The children had performed with confidence and ease and were a credit to their school and class.
Be sure to ask your child, “What’s your class motto?”.
Reading
In reading, the children have all now been given their reading books. Please if you could make sure your child takes their book home with them to keep up to date with the reading and if possible, hear them read aloud. Over the course of the year, we will be looking at different comprehension strategies that help develop the children’s understanding of text and media.
Numeracy
In maths this term, we have been looking so far at ‘Place Value’ with up to 6-digit numbers. If your child would like to continue to practise place value from home, we recommend sites such as Topmarks, Education City and Sumdog!
Topic
Our topic this term is ‘Our Democratic World’. In class, we have been investigating what democracy is all about in Scotland before we begin our focus on the ‘European Union’.
Ask your child what their understanding of democracy is!
