Maths Week

Maths Week has been so much fun. We have learned through lots of fun activities. On Trail Tuesday we enjoyed working with others to go through the maths trail. It was good to use different maths skills as we made our way around the school. On Weighing Wednesday we followed a recipe very closely to make delicious banana bread. We estimated how heavy we thought each ingredient weighed, listing them in order of lightest to heaviest, before we checked the actual weight – our guesses were very close! We then measured and weighed each ingredient really carefully to make our mixture. After that we placed the mixture into the baking tray and put it in the oven for 45 minutes. We checked the progress of the banana bread as it was cooking. Thankfully because we got our weighing and timing correct it tasted great!

On Time Thursday we imagined what time zones in different planets might be. We then worked out what time we would be waking up, going to bed, having dinner and breakfast and playing in Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and so on. It really tested our knowledge of time and addition/subtraction.

Fun/Active Friday was one of the best days ever! We started off the day taking part in whole school bingo led by Mr Sturrock. Well done to Agnes in our class who won a prize on the bingo. We then took part in lots of fun outdoor activities such as Loose Parts Play, Gardening, Playground Games and Game around the World. We also took part in a whole school penny trail for SCIAF which was lots of fun. We topped the day off with a really cool silent disco!

We have also been testing our mental maths skills by playing sumdog. Well done to all of P6 for trying so hard with this!

P6 General News

In science we learned about the classification of living things. We focused on the different types of invertebrate including insects and molluscs. We also thought about their habitats and created our own “bug hotels” for the playground.

We have been reading Mr Gum together and have really been enjoying it. This week we created Wanted posters for Mr Gum. Since he is such a villain we created a jamboard to think about all the reasons he could be wanted for. We made the posters look old fashioned by staining them with tea.

We really enjoyed our Macmillan coffee morning and baking cakes for such a worthy cause. Thank you for the kind donations!

We have been having fun with Mr Horton every Friday. We have been singing a round which was tricky to begin with but we have got used to it. We were told the musical name for this is Canon.

Trip to Seaton Park Wetlands Area

On Tuesday 5th October we were really glad to be back on a school trip again. We walked the short distance to Seaton Park to take part in digging at the wetland, combined with bird watching. The purpose of this visit was to become more aware of the living and non living things that create part of this habitat. We have been learning about classification of living and non living things in science so it was great to make these practical links!

Thanks for reading!
