P5 2021-2022

Welcome to Primary 5

Welcome to Primary 5!

The boys and girls have done a great job at settling into their new class. We have had a busy few weeks. Here is what we have been learning:

Literacy

In literacy, we have been writing book reviews, films reviews and our own autobiographies.

We have been learning about homophones and learning new vocabulary to improve and up level our writing.

We enjoy taking some time each day to read some of our accelerated reader books.

Maths

We are currently working through our whole number topic. So far, we have covered estimating and rounding, place value and negative numbers.

Health and wellbeing

We are delighted to be working with Callum in RADS twice a week, focusing on speed and agility. We also have been learning about central net games in PE with Miss McLoughlin.

We have also been learning empathy and how we show empathy in the playground and in the classroom.

Other curricular areas.

We celebrated the Feast of the Nativity of Mary and created some beautiful birthday cards in her honour. We looked at the story of creation and Noah’s Ark, looking at the theme of water in the bible. We thought about different ways we can look after God’s creation linking to our topic of “Our Caring World”.

We have been enjoying our expressive arts lessons and have produced some great work.

Things to look forward to:

On Thursday, 23rd of September, we will be hosting a Macmillan coffee morning for our class. We hope to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

The following week, we have Maths week and we can’t wait to see what exciting events have been organised.
