P5 2022-2023

Term 4 – Final Update

We are happy to post our final update of the year from P5 in what has been a busy term and a busy year.

Literacy

We have been reflecting on our favourite pieces of writing this year and the stand outs have been – imaginative writing where we created our own mythical creature and our writing linked to the Titanic. More recently we have been planning our picnic at Seaton Park – making advertising posters and creating new games we could play. We have also made new adventure books using book creator and these can be shared with parents at home.

Maths

Our favourite maths topics this year have been fractions and shape. We have recently completed our work within shape and angles which we enjoyed learning about. It was good to think about different shapes and angles we encounter in everyday life.

Health and Wellbeing

We have been so lucky to have lots of highlights in both our physical health and well being and the work we do in class which focuses on the SHANARI indicators. Recently going skiing at the snowsports centre has been a real treat. It was exhilarating to experience the thrill of skiing down the slopes. We have loved RADS again this year and huge congratulations to those of us who picked up RADS certificates this year! Thank you Calum for leading these sessions every week and for all your work over the past few years. We had a lot of fun and good experiences at Sports Day and Potted Sports where we all managed to achieve success in the different disciplines.

In class we worked with Miss Hammond, Miss Jadid and Mr McFadden throughout the year to learn more about our own health and wellbeing linked to the SHANARI indicators (Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible). It has been rewarding to be able to identify the different ways we feel we experience each of these indicators at home and at school.

School Shows and Parental Events

Thank you to the parents and family of the children who supported and attended the recent events involving the P5s showcasing their learning both in class with our Open Afternoon and through song and dance as part of our Through the Decades show. It was amazing for the children to share these moments with you. We are looking forward to the last event of the year for P5 parents at our Seaton Park Picnic on 28th June at 10.15-11.45.

Thank you for your support throughout the year and we look forward to seeing the P5s back with their new teacher – Mrs Carrara in P6 in August. Have a lovely and safe summer holidays!
