P7 2023-2024

The Term ahead – P7 Term 2

Welcome back to all the P7 boys and girls, rested and ready for the term ahead. Here are some of the learning and events that will be happening this term.

Literacy

We will continually our weekly tools for writing lessons covering spelling, grammar, vocabulary building and handwriting alongside our reflective reading strategies. Our taught writing will focus on the two contexts for learning we will cover this term. We will be writing job description for engineering based jobs, persuasive writing pieces about why our inventions should be entered into our whole school “Dragon’s Den” competition and instructional pieces on how our invention works. We will also write some personal pieces about our experience of performing in a school panto and using our imagination to write our own stories.

Doric books project

This term, we will also be working with Jackie and Aaron from “Doric Books” to write and publish our own book… in Doric! We won’t give away too many spoilers just yet but we already have some incredible ideas!

Numeracy

This term, our focus for Numeracy will be Money. We will look at budgeting, calculating profit and loss, foreign exchange alongside enterprise opportunities linked to the Christmas Fayre and our Doric books project.

Contexts for learning

Inventions and inventors – Our school will focus on the Engineering cycle, helping us to create our own inventions and prototypes that could make the world a better place. We will showcase some of our inventions at our whole schools “Dragon’s Den event”.

St Peter’s Arts festival – P7’s main focus for this context for learning will be our school panto, “A Hint of Snow white” learning our lines, rehearsing our songs and created props but we will also explore other art, music and drama opportunities.

Timetable

Just some reminders of weekly activities in P7 this term:

Homework – Homework will continue to be assigned on google classroom and shared every Monday. It will include a reading book (assigned on Boost website, formerly rising star), with a linked literacy activity. It will also include numeracy homework assigned on Education city, linked to what we are learning that week. Home learning opportunities will sometimes be shared. Also because of the time of year, there will be an expectation that P7 pupils are learning their lines for the panto for homework. Homework should be handed in on Friday.

Weekly Learning – A slide will be shared on the google classroom each Friday to show what has been happening in our classroom that week. It is regularly updated with reminders of upcoming events. You can also see our school newsletter each month for news!

PE – On Monday, P7 pupils have RADS with Harry and on Tuesday they have PE with Mrs McFadden. There will also be monthly Active adventure days which will be posted on the google classroom nearer the time.

Specialists – On Wednesday, we also have Ms Hamilton, our singing teacher helping us to learn our songs for the panto. We will also have Mandarin with Anne on Wednesdays too.
