P3/4 2023-2024

Term 3 in P3/4

Happy New Year and welcome to P3/4. This update will inform everyone of our learning this term.

We have already started learning about Scotland, Scottish dance and poetry. We have also created out learning targets for this term.

Our IDL at the beginning of this term is ‘Let’s Celebrate’.

Which will be followed by  ‘How’s the Weather’ context for learning.

Literacy

Our writing this term will be linked to the two contexts for learning that we will work through in Term 3. In the ‘Let’s Celebrate’ context for learning there will be lots of opportunities for exploring various genres of writing such as fact files, imaginative stories as well as poetry. In our ‘How’s the Weather’ context for learning there will be opportunities for functional writing such as science experiments, reports and informal letters . We will also continue working on developing our knowledge of phonics, spelling and reading skills through the use of Read Write Inc.

Numeracy

This term we will be summarise our knowledge of angles, symmetry, position and turning through angles. We will also work on telling the time using both analogue and digital clocks. Finally, we will revise and enrich our knwledge of money and using money in real life situations. We will develop our skills in numeracy through variety of independent, group and outdoor activities.

IDL

‘Let’s Celebrate context will allow us to explore Scottish customs, poetry, music, dance and language. We will engage in variety of class activities to build our knowledge about Scotland. We will also look and The Carnival and how it’s celebrated in different parts of the world. We will compare both festivals based on the knowledge built during our lessons. We are very excited to be able to take part in Scottish ceilidh dancing and to learn Scottish songs and poems for the competitions. We will prepare art about Scotland and Scottish symbols and discuss them. During ‘How’s the Weather’ IDL we will engage in creating school’s weather station. We will create reports about the weather and prepare our class’ weather chart.

Health and Wellbeing

Our P.E this term will start with a focus on Scottish Country Dancing and we will work during our P.E time to practice our dances – ‘Flying Scotsman’ and ‘Virginia Reel’. We will also take part in gymnastics and learn skills for playing tennis. Our PE days this term are Monday- RADS and Tuesday-PE. Children can come to school in suitable P.E clothes and trainers on this day. During Health and Wellbeing lessons we will cover aspecs of being Included, Respectful and Responsible from the SHANARRI wheel.

RE

We will continue lerning about different stories from the Bible and we will also invite parents to our class assembly focused on the Story of Creation. This term we will also start our preparation to the First Holy Communion- P4s and Reconciliation- P3s. Our RE lessons will support us on our journey as Catholics to build our undersatnding of the Sacraments.

Homework

Homework will be set on Monday and handed in on Friday. Homework will be set on google classroom and the programmes used for homework are Education City for numeracy, Oxford Owl for reading and Ruth Myskin for spelling and phonics.
