Term 4 in P1W

Numeracy

This term our main topic will focus on time. We will be sequencing parts of the day and recognising what activities we do in the morning, afternoon and evening. We will be learning to sequence the days of the week and months of the year and recognise days and months that come before and after. We will be exploring digital and analogue clocks and learning o’clock and half past. We will also be looking at position and movement and using positional language to guide bee bots and our friends! We will also be exploring fractions, looking at doubles, halves and quarters.

Literacy

In literacy, we will cover a variety of areas in writing. In functional writing we will looking at writing fact files about sea creatures linked with ‘Our Silver City by the Sea’ context. We will be exploring more imaginative writing to create items for Mr Grinling the Lighthouse Keeper! We recently designed him a new imaginative lunch. In personal, we will be using our context for learning called ‘We are the Champions’ to write about what we are the champions of this year and at sports day.

Health and Wellbeing

Using the SHANARRI indicators, our topics for this term are Safe and Active. We will be exploring water safety, road safety and taking part in Potted Sports and Sports Day.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our first topic for the term is ‘Our Silver City by the Sea’ where we will be using the ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ book series to learn about our city and local lighthouses. We will explore what animals live in the North Sea and their habitats. Our second topic for the term is ‘We are the Champions’ where we will be looking at a country taking part in the Olympics, local sports champions and how we can become champions in our own lives. We are looking forward to our show to present learning and songs to family and friends!
