Term 3 in P3
Welcome back to school after the Christmas holidays. We are looking forward to a busy third term in P3.
Maths.
We have started a block of learning on Time. We have begun by learning about the months of the year and the Seasons. We will be learning to tell the time on both digital and analogue clocks. Some children will be learning to tell half past and quarter past times, while other children will go on to learn quarter to times and five minute intervals. The children will all learn to solve problems involving duration.
One day a week the children are learning about angles and symmetry. They started by identifying right angles within the classroom and will go on to identify angles greater and less than 90 degrees. The children will also learn to create symmetrical patterns with more than one line of symmetry.
During the second half of this term the children will also have a block of learning on multiplication where they build developing their multiplication skills from P2. They will learn a range of strategies for multiplying numbers together, and will focus specifically on the 5, 10, 2, 4 and 8 times tables.
Literacy.
The children continue to have 4 reading lessons a week through our Learning to Read programme.
In writing, we will first be learning to write imaginative pieces, focussing specifically on developing the description of the setting within a piece of writing. The children will then move on to a block of personal writing, learning to review a personal experience, before learning about persuasive writing in their functional writing block. As always, the writing lessons are linked to the IDL contexts for learning.
IDL
During January our whole school focus is “Our Cultural Scotland”. The children will be learning ceilidh dances, Scottish songs and poems. They will also be exposed to pieces of art from Scottish artists, and will learn to create their own pieces of Scottish art. Home learning challenges should be accessed through Google classroom. On January 29th Mr Sturrock will be visiting the class to judge to singing and poetry competitions. We are looking forward to our Highland games active adventure day on the 24th January, which will feature our annual Ceilidh in the afternoon!
Our second context for learning this term will be based on the school focus of “Our Historical Scotland”. Primary 3 will be learning about Castles during this context. They will learn about life in a castle long ago, the jobs that people did in the castles, and the special features that castles were built with.
R.E.
This term some of the P3 children will be preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which will take place on Thursday 20th March. The children will be grouped for R.E lessons dependent on whether or not they are receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Health and Wellbeing.
In P.E. our first block this term is Ceilidh dancing. The children will learn the “Flying Scotsman” and “Virginia Reel” dances for our school Ceilidh. The class will then go on to develop their gymnastic skills in our second block.
For the second half of term the children will be learning the skills to play Netball.
In Health and wellbeing lessons with Mrs Jadid the children will be learning about the SHANARRI indicators of Included, Responsible and Respected.
