End of Term 3
Primary 7
We have had a very busy term 3 and can’t believe how quickly the past 12 weeks have passed.!
Staffing
Mrs Mbarki finished her student placement with us at the end of January, we wish her all the best for the future! We have welcomed Mrs Binkowicz back, she will be teaching P7 every Monday.
Numeracy
We have completed three numeracy topics this term: Fractions, Decimals and Percentages; Algebra and Multiples, Factors and Primes. Some of this learning consisted of learning to calculate simple percentages of a quantity and use this knowledge to solve problems in everyday contexts. We have also learned how to identify multiples and factors of whole numbers and apply knowledge and understanding of these when solving relevant problems in number, money and measurement. We enjoyed using function machines to solve algebraic equations.
Literacy
We have continued with our reading, grammar and spelling lessons. In Taught Writing we have also continued to develop our skill of writing in different genres. We have created imaginary stories, recalled previous events, written diary entries and created our own newspaper articles.
Our class novel this term has been ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell. This is an exciting book which we have all enjoyed. Our Reflective Reading lessons were based on this story.
IDL
We have covered two contexts for learning this term, Our Cultural World and Our Historical Work. We enjoyed learning more about Scottish history and culture, performing dances, songs and poems. When learning about Our Historical World, our focus was on the Highland Clearances. We enjoyed going back in time to learn about the people who were forced to leave their homes due to the ever increasing rents and the introduction of sheep farming.
In Term 4 we will continue to learn from all areas of the curriculum. We are looking forward to our residential trip to Tomintoul and all of the transitional activities we will be taking part in, in preparation for joining our new academies next session.
