Term 4
Welcome back to the final term of P1! Here is some information about the learning that will be taking place throughout the term. We have two exciting new contexts for learning; Our Cold World and Our Healthy World. The images below will give some further details about these:

Literacy
The learners will be continuing to follow the Read Write Inc scheme to support their phonics development. Strategies will be applied to taught writing lessons this term, which will focus on imaginatively continuing a story, creating functional fact files and writing personal recounts. Literacy lessons will be linked to their contexts for learning and will involve responding and continuing imaginative stories set in cold landscapes. They will also write fact files about animals from cold landscapes and write about personal experiences linked to Healthy Eating Week and sporting opportunities. The class will gain experience writing different genres of text and develop a range of tools for writing.
Numeracy
We use a maths mastery approach to numeracy in school, developing from the concrete, to pictorial and then an abstract way of thinking. In Numeracy this term we will be beginning to look at time. This will involve recalling days, months and seasons before moving on to reading analogue and digital time. Additionally, many learners will be encouraged to apply their knowledge of time to understand duration and word problems. Following this, we will move on to revising strategies covered at the start of the year in Addition and Subtraction, while also encouraging and supporting mental maths approaches to this.
Our stand alone topics will be covered during 1 maths lesson a week. This term that will be Fractions and Estimation. We will cover recognising and splitting shapes/objects into halves and quarters before also splitting quantities too.
P.E Days
P.E will now be on a Monday and Thursday.
