P4/5 2024-2025

Term 4 in P4/5

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely, restful Easter break. We are looking forward to a busy term ahead, here is what we will be learning this term.

Numeracy

This term we will be exploring shape and symmetry where we will be recognising, naming and classifying 3D shapes as well as exploring shapes that tile. We will also be looking at symmetry by identifying symmetry around us and creating our own symmetrical pictures. In our measurement topic later in the term we will be learning to measure using appropriate apparatus and record measurements accurately using correct notation. We also explore conversions of measurements, estimations as well as exploring area/perimeter within measurement. Our final Numeracy topic of the term is data handling where we will learn to read, interpret and create a range of graphs.

Literacy

We will be continuing with our Cypic approach to writing this term. We were very pleased to reach the 100 Club for connectives last term! Our new focus for this term is vocabulary where we will be exploring a range of writing genres, such as persuasive writing and functional writing linked with our IDL topics. We will continue to practice spelling words and reading strategies during guided reading and reflective reading sessions.

IDL

Our first context for learning topic is “Our Natural World” where we will be looking at rainforests. During this topic we will be exploring weather, climate and seasons in rainforests. We will look at forest layers and animals that live in rainforests as well as their adaptations to survive there. We will also work on our map reading skills to identify and label rainforests on a map. We look forward to engaging in fun art work linked to this topic too. Our final context for learning is “Our Healthy World” where we will be taking part in a range of activities linked to health, for example our Sports Day and Potted Sports.

Other

We will continue our weekly RADS and P.E sessions. Our P.E focuses this term are Netball and Athletics. We will also have Mr Horton every Friday for music and are looking forward to our weekly swimming lessons on Thursdays! We will continue our Monday afternoons with Mrs Jadid for Science and Health and Wellbeing.

We look forward to updating you with all our learning very soon! Thank you,

Miss Watson and P4/5
