Numeracy

We will work on analysing, interpreting and drawing conclusions from a variety of data such as tally charts, bar graphs, pictograms, Venn diagrams, Carroll diagrams and line graphs. We will also discuss selecting and using the most appropriate ways to gather and sort data for a given purpose. We will learn to use mathematical vocabulary appropriately to describe the likelihood of events occurring in everyday situations including, probable, likely/unlikely, certain/uncertain, possible/impossible, and fair/unfair.

During the second part of the term we will focus on measuring. We will learn to estimate to the nearest appropriate unit, then measure accurately: length, height and distance in millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m) and kilometres (km). We will also learn to make accurate use of a range of instruments including rulers, metre sticks, and digital scales and measuring jugs when measuring lengths, heights, mass and capacities using the most appropriate instrument for the task.

Literacy

During reading lessons we will work on using different reflective reading skills to understand texts better. Our reading lessons will be linked to our IDLs. We will continue developing our knowledge of inference, scanning, predicting, summarising, creating and answering questions to different texts. We will also work in different reading groups during our guided reding lessons.

In writing we will continue building our knowledge of different genres. We will write imaginative stories, newspaper articles, diaries, recounts, instructions and leaflets. Our writing will be linked to our IDL learning.

RE

During RE lessons we will discuss the Holy Trinity and reflect on how we can honour the Holy Trinity. We will recognise that Mary is honoured as the first of all believers and that she was given the titles ‘Mother of God’ and ‘Mother of the Church’, and explain what these terms mean. We will also look at the story of Mary’s apparition in Lourdes. When learning about Mary we will also discuss Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. Finally, we will discuss who prophet is and we will recognise that the prophets reveal the relationship of love and fidelity that God seeks to have with his people.

PE

During PE lessons, which will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will continue developing our football skills with a RADS coach. We will also learn skills required to play cricket. Second part of this term will be linked to athletics and participation in the school’s Sports Day and Potted Sports Day.

Homework

Our homework will include numeracy tasks, reading books and spelling words. Numeracy homework will be posted every Monday and should be finished by Friday. Reading will be posted every fortnight on Mondays.
