P3 2024-2025

Term 4 in Primary 3.

The children have come back, fresh from the holidays, ready to start the final term in Primary 3.

Numeracy.
We are starting T4 with a block learning about money. The children will be learning to create amounts to £5, £10 or £20. They will also learn to give change from these amounts.

The class will also further develop their numeracy skills through learning about division and the use of fractions. They will learn to divide numbers using the 2, 4, 5 and 10 times table to support their understanding. In fractions they will learn to find equivalent shape fractions and will use their division skills to find simple number fractions.

One day a week the children will have a block of Data handling lessons. They will look at how statistics can be displayed in a range of ways, including using digital technology to create graphs. The class will also learn to use standard units to measure length, weight and volume.

Literacy.
We are starting with a block of imaginative writing. The children are learning to use a picture as the setting for a story. For functional writing, the children will learn to write letters, based on our IDL context for learning. Our final block of writing will have a personal focus, again linked to the IDL context of “Our healthy world”.

IDL
Our first whole school context is “Our natural world”. Primary 3 will be learning about “Freshwater and Rivers”. We will be revising learning about the water cycle and learning about the journey of a river. The class will learn to create food chains related to rivers. They will also learn about the life cycle of salmon and how to stay safe around rivers. The class will have some individual research time to research some of the rivers in the wider world, such as the Nile or the Amazon.

Our second context for learning is “Our healthy world”. We will be looking back over the last year and preparing for the school move. The class will be learning about how they can keep both their bodies and minds healthy.

R.E.
The children started the term by learning about Pope Francis and giving thanks for his life. During May they will give thanks for Mary and learn about how Mary is celebrated across the world. Towards the end of the term the class will learn about some of the miracles of Jesus.
