Welcome to Primary 1!

Primary 1 have had a super first week of school and have settled in brilliantly. We have been busy learning routines, exploring our classroom, making new friends and meeting our Primary 7 buddies! Here is what we will be learning this term.

Literacy

This term we will be learning sounds using the Read Write Inc. programme. We will also be learning how to form letters correctly. We have already been exploring writing through our play where we have a writing and role play area giving us lots of opportunities to write, draw and mark make.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we will be learning to read, write and recognise numbers. We will also be exploring numbers before/after, more/less, missing numbers, odd/even numbers, ordering numbers and counting forwards and backwards.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our first IDL topic of this term is called ‘Our Democratic World’ where we will be looking at people who help us in our local community, at home and at school. Through this topic we have already created our Class Charter and looked at our rights as a child. We are looking forward to exploring Fairytales through our second topic called ‘Myths and Legends’.

Health and Wellbeing

We will be keeping active through our PE coaching sessions that are every Monday and our PE sessions with Miss Watson. We are also looking forward to taking part in Active Adventure Days! This term our Health and Wellbeing focus is safe and healthy which links with our first IDL context too.

Other News

We loved our first singing session with Miss Hamilton and look forward to having her every Wednesday morning this term.
