Welcome to P4/5

Hello everyone welcome to P4/5 first post. This term we are working on two IDLs. Our first IDL -Our Democratic World, will link to ‘Rights and Responsibilities’. Our second IDL- Myths and Legends will focus on Scottish myths and legends.

IDL-Our Democratic World- Rights , Responsibilities and Citizenship

We will:

  • discuss the difference between needs, wants and rights
  •  talk about what it means to be a citizen
  • discuss roles and responsibilities of a citizen
  • discuss the rights of a citizen
  • talk about children’s rights as specified in UNCRC
  • we will take part in election to Pupil Council
  • all pupils will have a chance to join pupil voice groups and plan their work for the whole year in order to make an impact and a difference in our school community
  • talk about democracy and democratic voting

IDL- Myths and Legends- Scottish myths and legends.

We will:

  • read some Scottish myths and legends
  • visit Tillydrone Library
  • create a story in a day
  • paticipate in creating a school’s story book
  • do creative writing

Literacy

In our writing we will focus on writing creatively and link our writing to our topics. We will also write other genres such as a reviev, a report, a speech and a diary. In reding we will talk about different skills that help us read and use those skills to understand texts better. We will also continue practising our spelling and listening and talking.

Numeracy

We will work with wghole numbers. During our work we will discusson place value, rounding and four operations-addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will pracytise using the four operations to solve different problems and build our understanding when to use the right number operation.

RE

During Re lessons we will work with the Bible and wi will practise finding passages in it. We will also talk about respectfully participating in prayer and mass. As a class our focus will be on the lives of saints and qualities of a saint. We will also look at our talents and the meaning of real friendship.

PE

This term we will have couching sessions on Tuesdays and PE lessons on Fridays. During PE lessons we will start with developing and practising tennis skills. The second sport that we will practise will be hockey. We will work on skills required to participate in different sports, suc as concentration, pair and teamwork. stamina, coordination and fairness.

Homework

Our homework will include numeracy tasks, reading books and spelling words. Numeracy homework will be posted every Monday as a set of online activities and should be finished by Friday. Our reading books will be shared on Boost learning.

When working on Rights and Responsibilities we created our class charter.

We prepared speeches to encourage others to vote for us in class elections for the pupil council. We also created ballots and took part in voting.

We discussed democracy, citizenship, and the difference between rights and responsibilities.

During art lessons we drew houses of the parliament and Hollyrood.
