Primary 1 Blue
The children in Primary One Blue have been working very hard this term and we would like to share some of our learning with you.
We really enjoyed learning about Scotland; we made our own kilts, printed thistles with potatoes and we learned a Doric song which we performed at Assembly.
During Chinese New Year, we were lucky to have a visit from a Chinese Lion. The children were mesmerised by the Lion Dance and we had a lot of fun. We learned that most children in the class were born in the year of the Tiger.
As we are now in the period of Lent, the children have written Lenten Promises and every day we are trying to make good choices and be kind to each other. On Ash Wednesday, we celebrated our first school Mass. Thank you to all the parents who came to join us.
We are collecting money in school for SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund). We have done an amazing job so far. The SCIAF collection box is quite heavy already. Every single penny that we raise for the WEE BOX appeal will help families in Ethiopia who do not have enough food or clean water.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Reading and Phonics meeting on the 29th February. The children in the class are focusing on the digraphs (two letters that make one sound) “sh” “th” “ch” “ng” and “wh”. We will continue to work on our spelling words too. Please continue to use Education City to consolidate the children’s learning.
In Maths, we have begun learning about money. We have been working on recognising coins up to 10p and finding combinations of coins to make various amounts. We will be using our knowledge of addition and subtraction to add amounts together and to calculate change.
Our new topic is “Shops”. We have been discussing our favourite shops and why we like them. Throughout this topic, we will be talking about the different types of shops and the differences between shops now and in the past. We will be designing our own shops, writing shopping lists and creating a role-play Fruit and Vegetable Shop in the classroom.
On Wednesday 9th March we are going to be joined by some medical students from Aberdeen University. They will be running a “Teddy Bear Hospital” so please bring your teddies into school on Monday 7th March. They will be using our teddies to help us learn about our bodies and the importance of keeping healthy.
We are so lucky in P1 Blue to have so many different learning experiences. As part of our journey to become a Rights Respecting School, we have been learning about the Rights that we all have. We have focussed on the Right to Education so far, but we are looking forward to learning more about our Rights.
