P1 Blue

Primary 1 blue news.

Primary one blue have settled very well into their new class. They are making friends and learning the routines of the school.

Phonics
This week we started to learn our first sounds. We have been learning about the letter “a” and the letter “t”. You could play a game of  ‘I spy’ at home using these sounds. We have been learning how to form the letters correctly and have been thinking of words that start with those sounds.

We have enjoyed singing the Jolly Phonics songs for the sounds. We loved watching “Geraldine the giraffe” too.

Next week we will be learning the sounds “s” and “i”.

Maths.
In maths we have been exploring patterns, We copied different patterns, continued patterns and even created patterns of our own.

This week we have been thinking about numbers 1-10. We have been learning to count items, to sequence the numbers and to form the numbers correctly.

We enjoyed participating in different challenges all over the school during “Maths Week Scotland”.

Project
Our project this term is “All about me”. We have been developing our listening and talking skills by sharing the special holiday bags that we brought to school in August.

This week we have been learning to identify and name our body parts.

Next week we will be learning about what it takes to be a good friend and about our different emotions.

Forward dates.

On Friday 29th September, Primary One will be holding a coffee morning in aid of the Macmillan Cancer charity. Please come along at 9.30am, have a cup of tea or coffee and a cake, and help us to raise money for this important charity.

On Friday 13th October at 9.30 we will be going on a “senses” walk to the Cruickshank Botanic Garden at Aberdeen University. Our Primary 6/7 Blue buddies will be helping us to think about what we can hear, see, smell and touch as we go on our walk. Children will need to dress appropriately in jackets and waterproof shoes or boots. If you would be available to help us on the trip, please speak to Miss MacDonald.

Thank you for your help in supporting your children to complete tasks at home to support their learning. I am looking forward to seeing the homework jotters on Monday. If you have any questions or concerns about homework, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for all your support.
