P6 2021-2022

Term 2 Update

Literacy

We have been working really hard on persuasive writing in class, we have written job applications and posters and are looking forward to creating newspaper adverts and leaflets in the next couple of week.

As it was book week Scotland we have been learning about Scottish authors. One task we really enjoyed was learning from Scottish author Matthew Fitt and translating extracts from famous books into Scots. We tried this with a passage from Charlie’s Chocolate factory and loved it.

Maths

We have been working within the topic of money and linking our topic (world of work) to the different maths activities we have been doing. We have had fun learning about budgeting and the importance of being able to make calculations to stay within a certain budget. We have also used price comparison sites to get an idea how deals such as half price or 3 for 2 actually work and if you are actually getting a good deal! Spoiler alert – sometimes you’re not!

Topic

As mentioned already our topic is world of work. This has been a really interesting topic we have been involved in. We have discovered skills that would help employability and what different employers would look for both socially and academically. We have also investigated what makes a good entrepreneur and what skills they had to apply to their businesses to make them a success. We will be contributing to a whole school market later this term with a business idea of our own.
