P1/2 January news

Happy New Year and welcome back to school!

Performers and performances IDL.
The children did an amazing job learning all the songs and actions for “The bossy king” Nativity. They loved dressing up as angels and shepherds and performing for their parents. Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to watch the Nativity. During our class learning about the Nativity, the children enjoyed using the materials in the class to retell the story.

The children also loved watching the P5-7 children performing “A lad in trouble”. They then created “Good luck” cards to the Primary 7’s before they performed to their parents.

Christmas lunch and party
The children enjoyed having a special Christmas lunch. The made special hats and placemats to use in the hall for their lunch.

The children had a lot of fun at their Christmas party, it was lovely to see them playing party games together and showing off their amazing dance moves!

LIteracy
In January we are starting a block of letter writing. The children will learn about the features of a letter. They will also use the Scotland IDL context as a stimulus for the letter writing.
The children continue to have their RWI – learning to read lessons 4 times a week and are making excellent progress in literacy through these lessons. Thank you for supporting your child’s progress through reading with them at home using the online book resource.

Maths
In December we were learning to tell the time. The children enjoyed learning to tell the time in lots of active ways, including creating giant clocks in the school garden.

For the start of this term we are going to be learning about money. The P1’s will begin by learning to recognise and order coins, before going on to use their addition and subtraction skills with money. The P2’s will be learning to extend their knowledge and understanding of addition and subtraction, through solving money related problems.

Throughout the rest of this term the children will also be learning about fractions and continuing to develop their addition and subtraction skills.

IDL
In January Scotland is our IDL topic.

In February we will start a whole school IDL Africa context. More details will be shared later in the term.
