P5 Term 3 Update

Welcome to our Term 3 update on all the great things that have been happening in P5.

Let’s Celebrate

We took part in lots of memorable learning opportunities during our Let’s Celebrate context for learning. Highlights included:

Scottish Music and Culture Project
School Ceilidh
Robert Burns Competition
Scottish Active Adventure Day
Open Afternoon with parents and families
Up Helly Aa learning

It really was a fantastic context to allow all learners to showcase their different strengths and hidden talents. Children were encouraged to be successful learners and confident individuals in so many great ways.

Maths/Numeracy

Great work has taken place in our maths and numeracy learning so far this term. We have become specialists in all things related to data handling. Topics we covered are:

Interpreting line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts, frequency tables and pictographs

Drawing different graphs showing information accurately

Conducting surveys with our class

Thinking about chance and how different scenarios can range from certain all the way to impossible

Literacy

We are really enjoying our novel study ‘How to Train your Dragon’ and this remains our focus for literacy and reflective reading activities. We also continue to engage in accelerated reader which helps to improve our comprehensions skills and different writing opportunities such as writing for information, to persuade and different forms of imaginative writing.

Things to look forward to

Our learning doesn’t stop there and now we are ready a refreshed for the second half of our Term 3 learning. Things to look forward to are:

How’s the Weather context for learning – we will be focusing on different climates and why the weather is so different depending on the environment
