Summary of ‘We Are Linguists’ IDL and planning for our new IDL
P5 class took active part in learning about France and the French language during the first term. They created various pieces of writing such as letters, fact files and newspaper articles.
Learners had a lot of fun researching different facts about France, French landmarks and French culture. They took part in a French day at school where they could display their constructions of the famous French buildings and art inspired by French artists such as Monet and Matisse.
Our class also took part in “Tour De France” activity, run beautifully by our Sustrans I Bike instructor Fiona.
We had a lot of fun participating in the whole school French Active Adventure Day full of French games and sports and in a French day at school where we sang French songs, played French games and visited other classes to admire their creations for our ‘We are Linguists’ IDL. We also invited parents to our class to showcase our learning.
Our new IDL
Our new IDL which starts 24th September and continues until 14th November 2024 is called “Our Future World”.
During our IDL lessons we will:

- learn about the internet safety
- design a future school.
- create a time capsule to be opened when we return to our new school building (as part of opening celebrations).
- work on coding and understanding coding
Literacy
During our new IDL we will link our learning to taught writing. We will develop our understanding of writing instructions, job applications, imaginative stories and creating posters. During reading lessons we will continue working on different reflective reading skills. We will also read various books from our school library to put our knowledge of skills into practice.
Numeracy
We will revise our knowledge of times tables and look at different strategies that help us remember times tables. We will also learn how to do grid multiplication. Our knowledge of times tables and number facts will help us move on to fractions which we revise afterwards. We will learn to find simple fractions of a number using my multiplication facts, compare and order simple fractions, explore improper fractions and mixed numbers, create a set of equal fractions and work out the fraction of a whole number.
RE
We will continue learning about different stories from the Bible and learning new prayers. We will talk about Mary during the moth of October and we will celebrate and discuss the meaning of All Saints and All Souls days.
