Term 1 in Primary 5/6

Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely summer holiday and have enjoyed our first term in the new school year.

Numeracy:

This term we have looked at number and number process. We began looking at place value and how to correctly partition numbers. We then moved on to estimating and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 up to and within 5 digit numbers. Finally, we looked at multiplying and diving by 10s, 100s and 1000s. 

Literacy:

This year we are continuing the CYPIC approach to writing. Our first focus is Vocabulary while also looking at punctuation and openers. Through CYPIC we will be focussing on many different genres of text, which will like through our IDL topics. Our reflective reading lessons will be a focus on the BFG. We will continue to focus on spelling and reading fluency through using Big Cat. 

IDL:

This term we began looking at ‘Our Democratic World’ which we looked specifically at parliament. We worked with members of parliament to help expand our knowledge on how parliament works. We then moved onto ‘Myths and Legends’ where we explored different mythical creatures and legendary tales. Along with creating our very own fairytale book. 

Other Information:

We will continue our sports coaching on a Tuesday and PE session on a Thursday, please ensure you wear appropriate footwear.  Mrs Jadid will take the class on  Thursday for Science and Health and Wellbeing.
