Primary 4 September news

Primary 4 have settled in well to their new class in the annexe. We have had a great start to the year and what a busy term it has been!

Class charter

At the beginning of term, we were learning about our rights and how we can show respect for each others’ rights in our classroom. As a class, we created our class charter.

Literacy

Already this term, the children have covered a wide range of writing genres including imaginative, recount and report writing, based around our topic

We start each day with spelling and phonics. In phonics, we have looked at the ‘ae’ and ‘ee’ phonemes and we have been identifying words that have these sounds. We have practised using a range of strategies such as Elkonin boxes and Diacritical marking, along with using our knowledge of phonics to help us spell tricky words. Education City has some great activities to help with our spelling words. All children have their usernames and passwords in their reading records.

Maths

We have been working hard in maths lately. We have been looking at number processes and we are moving on to “time” in the coming weeks. In mental maths, we have been consolidating our times tables. Any extra practice that can be done at home would be great!

Here are some pictures of us enjoying Maths Week. It was a great opportunity to explore maths all around us.

Topic

Our topic work has been focusing on “The Rainforest”. The children have been very enthusiastic in learning about contrasting areas and have produced some great work, both at home and in school. In the coming weeks, the children will be completing personal projects based on their topic. We look forward to showcasing the pupils’ great efforts.

We had a great time in Duthie Park. We explored different plants that live in the rainforest in the tropical house. We also learned more about people who live in the rainforest.

Music

We are very lucky to have Mr Dawson this year teaching us music! Some of us have even signed up to choir and have been having great fun!

Homework

Homework is given out on a Tuesday and should be returned on Monday. Each week children will get reading for homework, assigned on their specific reading day. They will then receive spelling, maths and topic based homework. For additional practice each week, children can access Education City for a range of activities that relate to the work being done in class. Login details are at the front of their reading records.
